Spring 2017

The front external wall was completely stripped of layers of paint and we now sport a bright and fresh look with original brickwork and new notice boards.  Along with this new look, we decided to change the name of the church from Harbour Street Christian Fellowship to The Harbour Church Whitstable.

2011

Playmates, our parent and toddler group, have had three 'Extras' this year.  Parents and carers have been invited to stay for lunch with their children and babies.  Following this and on the three ocassions, we have had the input of a Health Trainer, a Dental Hygienist and most recently a Nutritionist from the NHS.  We hope to extend these events in 2012.

Summer 2010

We began to open the church more to the locality and visitors, with 'Coffee and Company' every Friday morning.  This is part of our intention to open the church to the community.  We now have three specific weekly events, Playmates, Coffee and Company and The Hub which are all open to families and individuals not directly connected to the church.  Click here for further information.

Spring 2009

To celebrate the completion of the building project, we opened the church. All of the premises were available to be seen and we also mounted a photo exhibition that showed the development of the building over five years. At the same time, we mounted an exhibition of photographs of Sunshine Corner from the 1960's. The overall theme of the opening was 'Bursting with Life.

Spring 2008

At Easter we held an exhibition of 'The Christ we Share.' This was intended to show how different cultures have interpreted the person of Christ. It was also intended to show how Christians reverence Jesus in ways that are specific to their times. Below are a selection of the images that were used.

Autumn 2007

We celebrated Harvest by opening the church to visitors on Saturday afternoon, 30th September. On the folowing day we had our harvest celebration when people brought gifts of vegetables, fruit and money. Following this on the Monday evening, we had a harvest supper. The offering to Tearfund for its work to relieve poverty and distress in developing countries was just over £1000.

Summer 2007

The church was open on the Saturday afternoon of Harbour Day, 28th July.  We served refreshments - tea, coffee and homemade cakes free of charge. A very good number of people came into the church and many showed an interest in the development of the buildings.

Spring 2007

We celebrated Easter with the gospel theme of the response to the call of Jesus, entitiled 'What if I do' - outlining the benefits of the Christian life.

The church window displayed the poster proclaiming

'He is Risen'and to emphasise this an empty tomb was the centre piece.

Autumn 2006

We completed

'40 Days of Purpose'

'A spiritual growth emphasis for the church'

The 40 Days of Purpose started on Sunday 24th September. On Wednesday 13th September we saw a DVD presentation by Rick Warren, the author of the Purpose Driven Life. This event started us on the 40 days journey. Since then, small groups have met each week to learn more about what God expects of us and how we should be applying this in our lives. We also read individually, a chapter each day of 'The Purpose Driven Life.'

Summer 2006

During the summer the church was open again for a period to encourage people to see it as: A Place for You. We had a small bookstall selling books and cards and the opportunity for people to purchase Tearcraft items. Refreshments were available too.

Easter Opening 2006

In the week before Easter Sunday the church was open each day for an exhibition entitled

'What's it all About?'

The exhibition presented the truths of Easter in a fresh and imaginative way. The main focus was upon the cross, the death of Jesus and his resurrection and how this affects us today.

Below are some photographs of this event.
